Design of interpretation and interactive elements for the penguins at Whipsnade zoo.

Visual concept was inspired by the swooping movement of penguins swimming, sliding and porpoising, with a palette that zinged.

Interactives included:

  • Floor paintings showing penguin swimming routes for young visitors to follow, building excitement on the long approach path

  • Life-size cutouts of all 18 penguin species, for the perfect photo opp

  • Penguin prints painted on amphitheatre seating

  • Spin-able panels with incredible penguin facts

Signage included:

  • Over 30 panels exploring the different species, adaptation, plastic pollution and conservation efforts

  • Large illustrated ‘exploded anatomy’ of swimming penguin

  • Map of southern hemispere with distribution information
